PHIVOLCS Recorded 6 Volcanic Earthquakes in Taal Volcano as of Aug 19, 2020

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has recorded six (6) volcanic earthquakes today August 19, 2020 while remains at alert level 1.

On Wednesday, the the Philippine Volcanology agency has released it’s latest update regarding the Taal Volcano, as it shows signs of irregularities and unrest after an earthquake was recorded yesterday.

According to Phivolcs, Mt. Taal shows signs of irregularities on Tuesday (August 18, 2020) together with other volcanoes including Mayon, Bulusan, and Kanlaon.

For the past 24-hours, Phivolcs recorded at least six volcanic earthquakes with about 20-meter high weak to moderate steam or fumarolic activity has been found from the Main Crater.

DOST-PHIVOLCS also reminded the residents near the volcano to take precautionary measures for possible sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and lethal accumulations as Taal remains under alert level 1.

However, the entry to Taal’s Permanent Danger Zone or PDZ is prohibited for safety purposes.
