Senator Jinggoy Estrada surrendered on Monday, June 23, 2014 after his warrant of arrest for the case of plunder was signed by the Sandiganbayan. Estrada is currently under the custody of the Philippine National Police (PNP) at the Camp Crame headquarters in Quezon City.
Estrada has undergone the standard booking procedures like the other accused which include physical and mental examination and taking of his mugshot.
Estrada poses for his mugshot at the PNP headquarters but unlike Senator Bong Revilla, Estrada’s booking procedures was conducted by the PNP in a private manner.
Soon upon posting, the mugshot of the senator spread over the internet and micro-blogging sites and to the local media like ABS-CBN News, GMA News and many others.
In contrast to the mugshot of senator Bong Revilla which was released by the PNP to the media in which senator Revilla was seen smiling in spite of the fact that he is facing controversial challenges over his political career, while senator Estrada was seems to be serious without paying any little smile during his mugshots taking.
According to the PNP Public Information officer, the booking procedure including the taking of mugshots with the accused is a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) conducted by the Philippine National Police.
