Human as we are, it is unavoidable not to have a disease or sickness. Considering the fact that we are required to adjust to our surroundings in order to live our daily lives. There are many well-known dangerous diseases, and one of them is diabetes.

Diabetes is a condition that weakens the body’s ability to process blood sugar. Medical experts have discovered various kinds of treatment to cure diabetic patients. However, one 16-year-old Filipina girl named Maria Isabel Layson presented a cure for diabetes through her study with the use of Aratiles, a fruit grows naturally anywhere in the in the country. Her individual study entitled “Bioactive Component, Antioxidant Activity, and Antidiabetic Properties of Muntingia calabura Linn. An In Vitro Study” where she discovered to be a cure for type 2 diabetes.

Maria Isabel Layson, of the of Ilo-Ilo City National High School was one of the 12 candidates sent to the International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, Arizona USA to represent the Philippines in one of the enormous pre-college science research competition in the world.

According to her, eating Artiles is the cheapest solution to cure diabetes. This study recognized as Best Individual Research in Life Science 2019 National Science and Technology Fair Department of Education, February 22, 2019. Aside from that, Maria Isabel Layson was the first in the batch to receive Gokongwei Brothers Foundation Young Scientist Award.

Seeing this, many Filipinos are very proud of her accomplishment, especially her family and relatives. Through her study, others may find hope in their lives and a reason to continue in fighting their battles against diabetes.
