Bianca Gonzalez has urged media outlets to avoid mentioning the cost of luxury goods possessed by celebrities in their features in light of the current international unrest and the circumstances that Filipinos are facing.
On April 6, the host of Pinoy Big Brother shared her opinions on X and urged media outlets to be more careful with their features. Although she didn’t name any particular media outlet, celebrity endorsements of opulent lives have long been a staple in entertainment media.
While acknowledging that many celebrities put in a lot of effort and save money for these kinds of purchases, Bianca stressed that the current circumstances necessitate a more thoughtful approach.
“Malamang ay pinag-ipunan nila ito, oo, pero sa ekonomiyang ito, sa taas ng presyo ng gas at bilihin, sa nangyayari sa mundo, sa hirap na pinagdadaanan ng mga kababayan natin, hindi ito ang panahon para detalyehin pa at ibida ang mga ganitong bagay. Hindi naaayon. Salamat.”
Her remarks coincide with the fifth week in a row that oil companies have raised prices since tensions in the Middle East intensified in late February, especially in light of the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran.
Many internet users agreed with Bianca that content should be handled more sensitively during these trying times.
Bianca has already voiced her opinions on important social topics. She also denounced structural issues that Filipinos face on April 1.
“There is no April Fools because the joke has been on us for way too long 🤡🤡🤡 patuloy na niloloko’t nililinlang pero wala pa ring nananagot at hindi pa rin inaayos ang mga bulok na sistema,” she previously wrote on X.
Actress and It’s Showtime anchor Anne Curtis reposted the article on her personal account.
Celebrities like Bianca and Anne have been outspoken about national concerns, such as demands for reform and responsibility. Alongside other celebrities including Vice Ganda, Catriona Gray, Angel Aquino, and Jodi Sta. Maria, they have participated in anti-corruption protests since last year.
