MANILA — Netflix revealed on Friday that Korean action icon Don Lee, Blackpink megastar Lisa, and “Squid Game” actor Lee Jin-wook will collaborate on a new action-thriller movie.
The trio’s project “TYGO” will broaden the “Extraction” world, which consists of two films (the 2020 original and its 2023 sequel) and a forthcoming series, according to a press release from Netflix.
Based on a graphic novel by Anthony and Joe Russo and Ande Parks, “Extraction” is one of Netflix’s most popular action films.
The film follows on Tygo (Don Lee), a former soldier who becomes a mercenary and sets out on a revenge mission that leads him into Korea’s criminal underworld.
Don Lee said in a statement that he was “thrilled” that the project, which had been in development for years, was finally going into production.
“TYGO’ brings a distinctly Korean identity into the global ‘Extraction’ universe. We can’t wait to unleash its explosive energy on audiences worldwide,” stated Lee, who has starred in Marvel’s “Eternals,” “Train to Busan,” and “The Roundup” franchise.
In acting endeavors, Lisa—whose real name is Lalisa Manobal—said she was “honored to be a part of this project and grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such incredible actors.”
Lisa, who previously played in the black comedy series “The White Lotus,” stated, “Being in an action movie has always been a dream of mine, so for my film debut to be such an exciting project feels very special.”
“As a fan of the ‘Extraction’ franchise, it’s a great honor for me to join this universe. I’m especially excited and grateful to be working with Don, whom I’ve always admired, and with Lisa as well,” added the actor.
“I’ll do my very best to present a film that lives up to your expectations,” he stated.
Cha Woo-jin wrote the screenplay, while Lee Sang-yong, who helmed Don Lee’s “The Roundup” and “The Roundup: No Way Out,” is the director.
“TYGO” is co-produced by Nova Film Inc. and B&C Group and produced by Big Punch Pictures, AGBO, and TGIM. Netflix is the distributor.
