Pura Luka Vega, the drag queen, has finally responded to the online uproar caused by her “Ama Namin” performance. Official
The footage of a recent performance by Filipino drag queen Pura Luka Vega went trending online, causing controversy.
Luka is shown in the video dressed in her unique drag appearance as she sings an energetic and remixed rendition of “Ama Namin” (“Our Father”) in front of many people.
The drag queen eventually addressed her performance in a Tweet on June 13, causing a backlash online.
She stated that while she realizes that her performance was judged “blasphemous, offensive, or regrettable,” she believes that she should not be directed how to do her drag or exercise her faith.
“I understand that people call my performance blasphemous, offensive, or regrettable. However, they shouldn’t tell me how I practice my faith or how I do my drag. That performance was not for you to begin with. It is my experience and my expression of having been denied my rights,” Pura Luka Vega stated in a post.
