Prince Harry attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst before becoming a lieutenant in the Army and flying helicopters.

During his ten years in the military, Capt. Wales, as he was called, served twice in Afghanistan as an Apache helicopter co-pilot and gunner, from 2012 to 2013. He retired from the Army in 2015 and now concentrates on philanthropic activities such as conservation in Africa and organizing the Invictus Games for injured service veterans.

Since his 21st birthday, he has served as a Counsellor of State, filling in for the Queen on official tasks.

On May 19, 2018, he married US actress Meghan Markle at Windsor Castle. The royal couple announced in January 2020 that they would retire as “senior” royals and split their time between the UK and North America. They stated that they planned to “work to become financially independent.”

Buckingham Palace declared just over a year later that the pair would not be returning to royal responsibilities and would relinquish their honorary military postings and royal patronages.
