Yumol’s father, a Suspect in the Ateneo Shooting, was Kìlled in Basilan

The shooting occurred less than a week after the Ateneo shooting, in which former Lamitan mayor Rose Furigay and two others were kìlled.

Gunmen on motorcycles kìlled the father of Ateneo shooting suspect Chao Tiao Yumol in Lamitan, Basilan, early Friday morning, July 29.

According to police, Rolando Yumol dìed after being shơt at least four times outside his home in Lamitan’s Barangay Rizal at around 6:45 a.m. on Friday, July 29.

The shoơting occurred less than a week after former Lamitan mayor Rosita “Rose” Furigay, her executive assistant, and an Ateneo security guard were kìlled at the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City.

The Philippine National Police said it was investigating the incident and that linking the att@ck to the Ateneo shoơting was “speculative” at this point.

“Our police personnel in Lamitan City is already conducting an investigation regarding the case.
So far, it is speculative to assume its direct relation to the shoơting incident that happened last Sunday at the Ateneo de Manila University,” said Brigadier General Roderick Alba, chief of the PNP public information office.
