Triumph for TVJ! Marikina RTC Grants Trademark Ownership of ‘Eat Bulaga’ to Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon.

In a recent resolution, the Marikina Regional Trial Court ruled in favor of the hosting trio, granting them trademark ownership of ‘Eat Bulaga’ following their legal dispute with Television and Production Exponents Inc. (TAPE).”

On January 5, in a Facebook live session, the former senate president announced the resolution they received, declaring their victory in the trademark dispute related to ‘Eat Bulaga.’ The resolution specifically dismissed TAPE’s claims of copyright infringement and unfair competition.

According to the resolution, neither TAPE Inc. nor GMA Network has the entitlement to use the trademark, including the logo, theme song, and airing of episodes broadcast before May 31, 2023. This date marks the departure of TVJ from the show.

“Wherefore, judgment is hereby rendered in favor of the plaintiffs (which include TVJ) against the defendants (TAPE and GMA Network),” Sotto read.

It also stipulated that the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) is mandated to revoke TAPE’s trademarks, namely ‘Eat Bulaga!’ and ‘EB,’ across all platforms and forms.

“Sa madaling salita… nanalo po tayo.”
