The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that on Monday afternoon, December 4, the province of Surigao del Sur experienced another seismic event, this time measuring a magnitude of 5.5. Phivolcs noted that the tectonic earthquake occurred at 1:08 p.m., with its epicenter located 11 kilometers southeast of Marihatag, Surigao del Sur, and at a depth of 17 kilometers.

Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur registered Intensity IV, while the City of Tandag experienced Intensity III following the recent earthquake. Phivolcs has assured that no aftershocks are anticipated, and the earthquake is not expected to result in any damage. It is worth noting that an earlier announcement by Phivolcs reported a magnitude 5.7 earthquake in Cagwait, Surigao del Sur, at 10:38 a.m. earlier on Monday.
