Joey de Leon, the henyo master, told the story behind of how he came up with the brand name “Eat Bulaga” for their noontime program.
Joey, Tito, and Vic Sotto have been entertaining and making Pinoy homes laugh for nearly four decades.
As questions grew, fans of the noontime broadcast wondered what would happen next. Joey de Leon has been giving facts and information on TVJ’s noontime broadcast since TVJ’s decision to leave TAPE.
One of his most recent posts discussed the show’s title. He posted a picture of the Eat Bulaga coffee table book Ang Unang Tatlong Dekada. This was published to commemorate the show’s 30th anniversary.
Joey coined the title, “And what do you do in a canteen? Of course, EAT! And that became my appetizer to help me through until I came up with a delicious title – Eat Bulaga!” according to the book.
The Henyo Master revealed that he came up with the term while drinking coffee in Tito’s kitchen.
“Something came up sa aking utak in 1979 while having coffee sa kusina ni Tito sa White Plains. I was in the company of a certain Jess Espiritu. Hmmm, JESUS and HOLY SPIRIT? Salamat po,” he added.
