Carla Abellana revealed that her divorce from Tom Rodriguez hasn’t hit her yet, especially since it hasn’t been implemented in the Philippines. In addition, the actress stated that she and her ex-husband have not spoken in months following their divorce.

“Hindi pa. You know why? Because number one kasi, divorce doesn’t exist in the Philippines. ‘Di ba alam naman natin ‘yan, either legal separation lang ‘yan or nullity ng marriage,” Carla responded on the podcast “Updated with Nelson Canlas” when asked if her divorce from Tom had hit her hard.

“So dahil ang foreign ng divorce at wala kasi sa atin, hindi pina-practice dito, hindi pa siya fully nagsi-sink in kasi sa ibang bansa pinrocess eh, it was processed in the United States kung saan existing ang divorce. Dito kasi hindi, of course iba ang ating legal system dito. So technically, kumbaga ‘yung mind ko, fully aware naman na, yes, divorce technically. Kumbaga when I go to the United States, divorced ako doon, single ako ulit, I am free, ‘yung ganu’n ba,” she continued.

Even in the Philippines, Carla is unsure whether her divorce from Tom is fully recognized.

“I don’t know, maybe sa akin lang ‘yon, sa mind ko lang ‘yon… Pero kasi iba pa rin ‘yung sa atin ‘pag recognized na ng mismong local court natin, ng legal system natin. Iba pa rin ‘yung, ‘Okay, divorced ka doon, single ka na.’ Pero dito hindi, so hindi pa siya nag-si-sink in,” the actress stated.

Carla also categorically stated that the reason for her breakup with Tom was not a single factor.

“I cannot answer that question kasi madami, madami pong dahilan. Hindi po mababaw, hindi po ganu’n kadali, hindi po iisang bagay lang. Talagang maraming reasons as to why [we parted ways]. Madami naman talaga.”

Carla claims that Tom, whom she last saw in February, has not spoken to her. Tom flew to America in March, she discovered from their manager.

“But since then, walang phone calls, no text messages, nothing,” carla said.

“Since then, wala talaga ever since. So it’s been what — more than six months na walang ganu’ng communication. Dahil hindi na rin naging maganda ‘yung mga nangyari eh, seryoso na talaga and ibang usapan na, lawyers were already involved. Umabot sa point na ‘yung lawyers na lang ang nag-uusap,” ayon pa sa kaniya.

“So definitely, no communication since February, mga ganiyan, March. So ang tagal na no anything. No phone calls from both ends — walang nag-re-reach out, walang tumatawag, walang nag-me-message — nothing.”

After dating for several years, Tom and Carla married in October 2021. However, in January of this year, it was revealed that there was a problem in their marriage.

Tom, a US citizen, announced in June that their divorce had been approved.
