A French filmmaker revealed a sneak peek of Johnny Depp, 59, in the role of the controversial King Louis XV in her film “Jeanne du Barry,” a historical romance about a royal concubine.
A few months after winning his defamation trial against Amber Heard, the actor is seen returning to his roots, such as playing with his band, Hollywood Vampires, who have also announced a comeback tour for this year.
Depp has renewed his contract with Dior to continue his campaign as the face of Dior’s men’s fragrance Sauvage, for which he was appointed ambassador in 2015.
“Jeanne du Barry” began filming in Paris and the Île-de-France region at the end of July (after the trial concluded in June), with landmarks such as the Palace of Versailles serving as backdrops.
“Jeanne du Barry” tells the story of Jeanne, a young working-class woman who uses her intelligence and allure to rise through the social ranks.
After playing the character of W, this will be Depp’s first major role. Eugene Smith appeared in the 2020 film “Minamata” alongside Akiko Iwase and Bill Nighy.
Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Richard, Melvil Poupaud, Noémie Lvovsky, Pascal Greggory, and India Hair will appear alongside Depp.
