Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri supports renaming the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) the Manila International Airport.

Naia to MIA

In an ambush interview at the Senate, Zubiri was asked about Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo Teves’ proposal to rename the Naia after former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

He said, “I don’t know what our colleagues will be discussing. Ako, mas pabor naman gawin na lang natin Manila International Airport. Ibalik na lang natin sa original name,”

I prefer returning it to its original name, Manila International Airport.

“If no one will agree on a particular family name — kasi syempre yellow against red na naman ‘yan — neutral na lang tayo,” He continued.

If no one can agree on a specific family name—because it will be yellow versus red once more—let’s be neutral.

The color yellow is associated with the Aquino family, while the color red is associated with the Marcos family.

Meanwhile, former Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon slammed the proposal, saying the government should focus on more pressing issues.
