When the NCAA Season 97 women’s volleyball championship round begins on Wednesday, the undefeated College of Saint Benilde and three-time defending champion Arellano University also will seek to make legacy for their respective schools.
The game begins at 2 p.m. CSB will try to complete a rare season swipe and come out on top of its second title, while Arellano will aim to accomplish some unresolved issues, an elusive four-peat crown.
The Lady Blazers will hold over the momentum from their elimination round run, in which they moved all nine games en route to an outright Finals berth and a knockout stepladder semifinal.
However, CSB head coach Jerry Yee hopes that the lengthy break will not derail their title defense.
“Kung sino ‘yung manalo sa stepladder, ayun ‘yung pinaka-deserving. Hopefully, mapagod sila para hindi na kami mahirapan. So ‘wag lang kami ma-stale, ‘wag lang kaming maburo,” Yee stated.
“We have to practice parang game-like pa rin. Sila, patayan sila. Kung sino ‘yung lulusot, ‘yun ‘yung pagod na kalaban namin.”
Meanwhile, Arellano head coach Obet Javier knows his team’s path to a fourth consecutive championship will be difficult, especially since CSB is also eager to win.
Arellano hopes to defend his title after dominating Seasons 92, 94, and 94 under Javier’s mentorship.
