Former model Gerry Gonzalo has ambitions to be a spokesperson for any level of government and an endorser of goods that represent Filipinos with disabilities.
Since Gerry lost his sight as a result of an accident on July 8, 1990, 32 years have passed.
He nevertheless continued to live a normal life despite his disability.
For reading books from his phone, Gerry’s “best friends” are the Voice Over and Siri mobile apps.
The Harry Potter books have actually been “read” five times by him.
Additionally, he keeps up with current affairs, participates in social media, and “watches” videos on different YouTube channels.
Even though he was a newbie, Gerry was the overall winner of the well-known modeling contest Bodyshots in 1989 and was a top model among the locals.
But when the car he was driving collided with a pole, the course of his life was abruptly altered.
“Ang natatandaan ko, ito yung lesson na gusto kong i-share sa lahat, never pray something that you will regret,” he started looking back.

He said, “Nakabili ako ng kotse noon, may pera ako, pero kinausap ko si Lord. Sabi ko, ‘Lord, bakit ganito?’
“Okey na, may pera ako kasi hindi naman well-off ang family ko. Kung gusto kong kumain noon sa Jollibee, hindi ko kaya, pero nung nag-modelling ako, parang akala ko, yun na. Mayaman na ako. Na-afford ko nang kumain kung saan ko gusto.
“Sabi ko kay Lord, ‘Bakit hindi pa rin ako masaya?’
“Nung time na iyon, okey naman ako. Marami akong kaibigan, party-party, pero hindi ako masaya.
“Nagtataka ako sa sarili ko. Sabi ko, ‘Lord, maski anong gawin Mo sa akin, maski ano ang mangyari, hindi Kita iiwan.’
“After two weeks, naaksidente na ako. After five years, nagdarasal uli ako.
“Sabi ko, ‘Lord, mukhang yung challenge ko, dininig Mo, ah. Medyo nahihirapan ako ngayon. Tulungan Mo ako. Mukhang hindi ko kaya itong challenge na ibinigay Mo sa akin.’
“Yun ang tandang-tanda ko bago ako naaksidente. Parang hinamon ko si Lord kaya yun ang hindi ko malilimutan.”
Gerry was twenty-two years old when the accident occurred in the early morning of July 8, 1990.
