The Department of Education (DepEd) has formally confirmed that the school year 2022-2023 will begin on August 22.
DepEd Order 34, section 2022, approved by Vice President and Education Chief Sara Duterte-Carpio, stated that the new school year will have 203 school days and will end on July 7, 2023.
The incoming school year will be enrolled from July 25 to August 22, while the Brigada Eskwela and Oplan Balik Eskwela will be enrolled from August 1 to 26, and August 15, respectively. The memorandum states that schools have until October 31 to gradually transition to five days of in-person classes via blended learning modalities, with three days of in-person classes and two days of distance learning modalities or comprehensive distance learning. However, all public and private schools should have shifted to five-day in-person classes by November 2.
Incoming kindergarten, first grade, seventh grade, and eleventh grade students in public elementary and secondary schools may pre-register for the following school year to enable DepEd to make necessary arrangements and adjustments to plans for the upcoming year.
The Education Department also actively encouraged schools to hold their early registration events during the same time period.
“In the context of the prevailing Covid-19 public health emergency, the conduct of the early registration shall be done remotely in areas under Alert Levels 3 to 5,” DepEd said in a memorandum. “In-person registration through parents and guardians may be allowed in areas under Alert Level 1 and 2 provided physical distancing and health safety protocols are strictly observed,” DepEd said in a memorandum.”
