According to a press release from YG Entertainment, Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa are in the “final stages of recording a new album.”

Blackpink announced on Tuesday (July 5) that they will release new music in August and will embark on a world tour by the end of the year.

The quartet — Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa — are in the film, according to a press release from YG Entertainment. “We are in the final stages of recording a new album,” and that their new music will kick off “a continuous large-scale project that will extend through the second half of the year” in August.

Furthermore, the release stated that the group would embark on the “largest world tour in the history of a K-pop girl group” by the end of the year.

According to YG Entertainment, “a lot of BLACKPINK-esque music has been prepared over a long period of time.” In addition to new music and large-scale projects, BLACKPINK will embark on the largest world tour in the history of a K-pop girl group by the end of the year to strengthen their bond with fans around the world.

In October 2020, the K-pop quartet released their first full-length album, simply titled “THE ALBUM,” through Interscope. The album peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 and spent two weeks atop the top album sales chart. BLACKPINK has seven Billboard Hot 100 hits, including the top 20 hit “Ice Cream” with Selena Gomez and two top 40s: “Sour Candy” with Lady Gaga and “How You Like That.”

BLACKPINK recently became the first musical act to reach 75 million YouTube subscribers. The group became the platform’s most-subscribed artist in September 2021, when they surpassed the 65.5 million mark and surpassed Justin Bieber.

Blackpink were featured on the cover of Billboard magazine in 2019 prior to the release of THE ALBUM, where they laid out their plans for a U.S. takeover. “You don’t have to understand Korean to understand the music, visuals, and vibe,” Jisoo said at the time. It appears that she was correct.
