Andrea Brillantes, a Kapamilya star, remembers auditioning for GMA’s version of the Mexican telenovela Marimar, which starred Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera.
Andrea, like so many other actresses in the Philippine entertainment business, experienced auditions and rejections. In a previous video by Brilliant Skin Essentials CEO Glenda Victorio, the Kapamilya star said that she had desired to be a pop star since she was a child.
Andrea expressed her admiration for Hannah Montana and Sharpay. Her elder siblings, though, thought she was out of tune, so she went on a career as an actress.
She revealed that as a child, growing up at her grandparents’ house, she used to pretend to be an artist, playing both the “bida” and “kontrabida” parts.
Andrea Brillantes also revealed her very first audition, which was for GMA’s Marimar. She was only three or four years old at the time. Andrea was capable of answering simple questions such as her name and favorite color, but when it came time to act, she couldn’t say anything.
“Nung sinabi na ‘Okay, let’s start na,’ hindi ko na alam yung lines ko, nawala lahat. So, umuwi na lang kami ni Mama,” Andrea explained. Her mother then informed her that although she’s adorable, she is not a “pang-artista.”
She further revealed that there were instances when she was not even featured on camera during her “extra” days. Andrea Brillantes stated that she had to wait for many hours for auditions. “Madalas hindi ako nakukuha,” the young actress remembered.
Andrea stated that when they heard about an audition on the Kapamilya network, they auditioned, and happily she was able to get the position, which marked the beginning of her career.
