Actor-singer James Reid’s music career skyrocketed after he was featured in the latest edition of the Recording Academy’s “Press Play At Home” video series.
The Recording Academy is the organization that dedicates and celebrates musical professionals, as well as the organization in charge of the prestigious Grammy Awards.
James played “California Lovin’,” an R&B tune he wrote with fellow musicians Ken Nana and Darius Coleman.
The three-minute one-shot video has James singing inside a bar while wrapped in warm white and blue lighting, with the camera continually concentrating on and surrounding him as he sings about a significant other and their unique bond.
Throughout the film, several details about James are revealed, such as his preference for psychedelic funk and the fact that the first album he ever purchased was Daft Punk’s “Discovery” from 2001, which featured the hits “One More Time” and “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.”
“California Lovin'” was one of the first songs James worked on after moving to Los Angeles, California, to pursue his music career instead of acting and modeling.
In 2017, James and Bret Jackson co-founded the music label “Careless Music,” which now represents artists such as Luka, Massiah, and Jolianne, as well as the dance group A-Team and his ex-girlfriend Nadine Lustre.
Other musicians included on “Press Play at Home” include BTS and SEVENTEEN from K-pop, Chance the Rapper from hip-hop, and Luke Hemmings from 5 Seconds of Summer.
