Maria Sharapova has announced that she is going to have a baby. The five-time Grand Slam tennis winner announced her retirement from the sport in a social media statement on Tuesday, her 35th birthday.
“Precious beginnings!!!” Sharapova tweeted, adding, “Eating birthday cake for two has always been my speciality.”
In December 2020, she confirmed her engagement to Alexander Gilkes. Meanwhile, in the first round of the Serbia Open on Tuesday, John Millman upset Dominic Thiem’s return from injury by defeating the Austrian 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. (Wednesday in Manila).
Already on Tuesday, Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic overcame Henri Laaksonen 6-2, 7-5 to go to the second round against Andrey Rublev of Russia.
