According to the authorities, Fourth Class Jonash Bondoc was found unresponsive inside the restroom of the academy’s barracks around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. He was rushed to the San Marcelino District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Police arrested Tuesday a cadet of the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy in San Narciso town after reportedly confessed to accidentally punching his colleague, leading to the victim’s death.

The suspect was detained at the San Narciso Police Station and the investigators were still waiting for the autopsy report to determine the cause of the victim’s death.

According to the Netizens, “Some may belittle the power of social media or activism in general, but remember that awareness is the first step of change. Let us not wait for the next tragedy. Let’s stand up for him now!”
