Taal Volcano Alert Level 2, some families in Batangas voluntarily evacuated

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) placed the volcano on alert level 2 on Tuesday, many of the residents voluntarily evacuated and stayed with relatives even without an order from the authorities.

According to ABS-CBN report, An estimated 100 families from Lemery, Batangas voluntarily evacuated due to fear of the threat of Taal Volcano.

“Baka magsabay-sabay ang labas. Baka mag-stampede na naman… Noong nakaraan, nagbangga-banggaan na, hanggang inumaga na kami. Inabot na kami ng ashfall bago nakaalis,” said Elizabeth de Villa.

“Ayaw na naming maulit ang dati na kami ay na-trap dito. ‘Yon pong rescue vehicles ay hindi agad makapasok,” said Joel de Castro. (Source ABS-CBN)

Vehicles that will pick up the evacuees, who need to undergo the COVID-19 antigen test.

“Twenty to 30 minutes lang naman po ‘yon. Lahat po ng negative ay dadalhin kung saan po ‘yong designated. Lahat ng positive, may protocol din kami,” sabi ni Cavite Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) head Eloisa Rozul.

A day after Phivolcs raised alert level 2 over the Taal Volcano, the agency on Wednesday released photos of the Taal Main Crater and the Taal Volcano Island. The snapshots were captured at around 10 a.m., March 10, it said.
