College of the Holy Spirit Manila: Shutting Down By The End of School Year 2021-2022

The provincial leader, Sr. Carmelita Victoria of the Mission Congregation of the Servants of the Holy Spirit, who runs the school, stated that they have decided to permanently close CHSM.

This is due to the pandemic and as a result of economic slowdown. They also mentioned that they have a difficulty in attracting new students to be enrolled in the 107-year-old school.

The school was known before as Holy Ghost College, which was an exclusive school for girls, but started to enroll male students on 2005.

Official statement:

“Be it known that the College of the Holy Spirit of Manila will voluntarily cease operations at the end of AY 2021-2022. This timeline allows the School to graduate its current Grade 11 and 3rd Year College students,

“The recent COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the situation. The reduction or loss in family income, mobility restrictions and social distancing requirements, and the new demands of distance learning have adversely affected enrolment,” the school stated.

“After consultation with representatives of our stakeholders, and a deep and prayerful process of discernment, we are now even more convinced that the Holy Spirit is speaking clearly to us through the signs of the times, compelling us to make this extremely difficult decision to close CHSM at the end of academic year 2021-2022.”

Here are some comments and reactions from the students and former students of the school:

I am so proud of my Alma Mater, College of the Holy Spirit, Mendiola…was and always will be proud of you, CHS! Thank you!

I cant thank you enough, my dear Alma Mater. What i have become, i can say to all and sundry, i owe to you. The SPIRIT will surely live on in my heart! This is heartbreaking. Hope i would wake up from this worst nightmare!

Proud to say I”m a CHSian! The memories will be treasured. The faith in God, the values and teachings was a part of what my alma mater instilled in me. The bond of friendships built within us. I will forever remember CHSM

Thank you for being the foundation on which we have built not only our careers but also the values that we have carried on in our lives. Forever grateful.
