The white sand project of The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) amazed the netizens at the same time broke the internet after it opened on Saturday, September 19.
The #ManilaBayChallenge has been trending online after netizens and celebrities joined the trend of posting photos in the ‘new’ Manila Bay.
A large crowd of visitors flock their way to see the controversial dolomite beach personally. Their photos receive ire from the netizens because they’re not practicing social distancing.
Meanwhile, celebrities also posted photos that gathered together in Manila bay due to the ‘white sand.’ Rappler’s photo of the visitors at the footbridge went viral on social media and gave birth to a new trend.

The ‘white sand’ project in Manila Bay cost PHP389 million. DENR’s makeover project drew criticism from environmental groups, geohazards, and marine science experts.
“May mga iilan nagsasabi na hindi napapanahon. Ang tanong ko sa inyo, kailan ang panahon para pangalagaan ang kapaligiran ng ating bansa?” said Mayor Isko Moreno. Saying the dolomite is not hazardous to your health.
