Full Statement: QC 5th District Rep. Alfred Vargas will inhibit from voting on the ABS-CBN Franchise Renewal

Top Trending topic online! QC 5th District Rep. Alfred Vargas will inhibit from voting on the ABS-CBN Franchise Renewal on Friday, July 10, 2020. QC 5th District Rep. Alfred Vargas went viral on social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

According to the statement of QC 5th District Rep. Alfred Vargas, “My heart goes out to ABS-CBN, its employees, and other worker whose livelihood depends on the network.”

“But RA 6713 section 7(a), on the Code of Conduct for Public Officials, and sections 28 and 81 of Rule IX of the House Rules on Committee Voting, as well as avoidance of conflict of interest, impel me to inhibit myself from casting my vote on the network’s application for franchise renewal,” he added.

This representation as an actor/producer has been engaged for artistic projects with the network. Thus, out of propriety and as dictated by law, I am duty bound to inhibit myself from voting on the application for the franchise of ABS-CBN.

House of Representatives Committee on Legislative Franchises denying the franchise application of ABS-CBN Corporation is a sole prerogative of Congress that we in the Executive recognize. Voting 70-11, lawmakers deny embattled media giant ABS-CBN’s bid for a fresh 25-year.

Here are the 11 congressman who vote to renew the ABS-CBN franchise:
