Is Teacher Ronnel A. Mas to be Freed in Prison?

Top Trending topic online! A Secondary Teacher from Taltal National High School will be free from jail soon. Ronnel A. Mas who allegedly posted on Twitter an offer of a P50-million reward to anyone who could kill President Rodrigo Duterte. Twitter post of Ronnel, “I will give 50 million reward kung sino makakapatay kay Duterte.” 

The Department of Justice is recommending bail of P72,000 for the provisional liberty of the public high school teacher who will be charged in court over a tweet offering P50 million for President Rodrigo Duterte’s head.

Recently, the handwritten letter of Ronnel Mas’ lawyer telling the NBI that with an invalid warrantless arrest, there is no legal ground to keep Mas in their custody. Mas is at the NBI headquarters in UN Avenue in Manila. The Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG) is handling this.

Based on the report of Rappler, “Contrary to earlier report of the Prosecutor General, Ronnel Mas’ lawyers say the inquest prosecutors ruled as INVALID the warrantless arrest of the teacher who offered P50M to kill President Rodrigo Duterte. His lawyers now at NBI to get him freed.” 

Mas’ lawyer Dino De Leon said NBI is still refusing to release the teacher saying there is no order to release. Lawyers arguing that with an invalid warrantless arrest and no charge, no basis for detention. 

Prosecutor Jeannette Dacpano saying “it is undeniable that the arrest of Ronnel Mas made by the NBI does not fall within the ambit of warrantless arrest contemplated by law.”
