The former Senator Heherson Alvarez that reportedly died due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has hospital bills that have reached a massive amount of P8 million after he was confined for more than a month, his son said.
On Tuesday, former Senator’s son Hexilon Alvarez shared this a day after his father died succumbed to the illness.
In his interview on dzMM, he was asked about the hospital bills of his late father, and he said, “Rough estimate is over P8 million.”
According to Hexilon, his father was confined in a private hospital together with his wife Cecile Guidote-Alvarez on March 10. Cecile is in a better condition now after she also contracted the virus.
Hexilon said, “Yung gastos. Napakalaki. Kahit kami ay nahirapan po sa gastos. Hindi rin naman po kami saksakan ng may pera [The fees are really expensive. Even us experienced difficulties in paying for the bills. We are not that rich anyway.”
“Pero nagbabakasakali kami baka ma-reimburse kami ng PhilHealth dahil napakalaki po ng gastos. Sabay pa silang napasok. Hindi namin napaghandaan,” he added.
The senator’s son has lamented how his parents fight the disease in their hospital rooms alone since the health protocols implemented the families from having direct contact with there COVID-19 patients.
Also, he called the attention of everyone to not just devalue the threats that were posed by the disease. COVID-19 is a traitor illness.
He said, “Seryosohin po natin ang COVID-19. Hindi ito biro. Traydor to na sakit, hindi dapat ito ginagawang ano na parang wala lang [Let us take COVID-19 seriously. This is a traitor illness and should not be taken lightly]. It’s not worth it.”
