Cong. Evelio “Bing” Leonardia together with Elcid Familiaran, Greg Gasataya and eight of their councilors was victorious in May 9, 2016 election. With a margin of 22,238 votes, Bacolod Congressman Bing Leonardia garnered 120,231 votes over Mayor Monico Puentevella got 97,993 votes and independent mayoral candidate Wilfredo David got 3,453 votes. On Vice Mayor Councilor El Cid Familiaran have 108,360 votes against businessman Vladimir Gonzalez with 86,611 votes. For Congressman, Greg Gasataya wins with 85,467 votes in a six-way congressional fight against former vice mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson with 84,431 votes; Councilor Carlos Jose Lopez with 18,211 votes; Councilor Archie Baribar with 17,460 votes; former city administrator Rolando Villamor (IND) with 1,491 votes; and Joel Enriquez (IND) with 628 votes.
Eight candidates for councilors from Grupo Progreso Ricardo Tan with 118,927 votes; Ricardo Tan with 118,927 votes; Cindy Rojas with 110,054 votes; former vice mayor Renecito Novero with 109,156 votes; reelectionist Councilor Em Ang with 107,807 votes; former councilor Elmer Sy with 101,423 votes; former councilor Dindo Ramos with 96,665 votes; Bartolome Orola with 95,328 votes. While four candidates from Puentevella’s Magbinuligay Kita sa Kauswagan or MKK Partido Bacolod who made it to the city council as reelectionist Ana Marie Palermo with 99,003 votes; Wilson Gamboa Jr. with 97,660 votes; Claudio Jesus Puentevella son of Monico with 94,677 votes and Sonya Verdelfor with 93,170 votes.
Leonardia also becomes the longest serving mayor in Bacolod City with his fifth term. He was first elected mayor in 1995. He sought reelection in 1998 but lost. He won again in 2004 and finished three consecutive terms of three years each until 2013. Winners proclaimed by City Election Officer Mavil Majarucon-Sia around 7:30 a.m. at the Sangguniang Panlungsod session hall of the People’s House (city hall).
