Latest Updates; Typhoon Soudelor (international name)  as the strongest tropical cyclone for 2015 will be spare the Philippines in the next few days after some international weather agency confirmed and made an estimates that it will not hit the country. According to the Weather Channel, citing satellite estimates from the Hawaii-based Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), Typhoon Soudelor is now categorized as a super typhoon.

According the latest updates of PAGASA, Typhoon Soudelor may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday, August 5, 2015. Once it enters PAR, Typhoon Soudelor will be locally named as Bagyong “Hanna”.

Here’s the PAGASA reports; The eye of Typhoon “SOUDELOR” (International Name) was located based on all available data at 1,855 km East of Luzon (18.4N, 139.2E) with maximum sustained winds of 215 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 250 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 20 kph.

  • Super Typhoon Soudelor underwent rapid intensification Monday and has become the strongest tropical cyclone on Earth so far in 2015.
  • Soudelor is expected to continue to track to the west-northwest the next several days over open waters of the western Pacific Ocean.
  • This track may bring it near Japan’s far southwest Ryukyu Islands, including Ishigakijima and Miyakojima, as well as Taiwan and eastern China late this week.
  • Soudelor is expected to weaken as it approaches these areas, but it will still likely be a strong, formidable typhoon.

Here is the latest forecast timing of the closest approach of the center of Soudelor, according to the JTWC (all times local):

  • Far southwest Ryuku Islands, including Ishigakijima and Miyakojima: Friday night
  • Taiwan: Saturday
  • Southeast China: Saturday night into Sunday
