Pastor Gavino Santiago also known as Pastor Vins is a transgender in his late years. On the 80’s he had sexual reassignment to be a transgender woman. He also got married to a British national and thought that it was like a dream come true.

However, his relationship with his partner is not as perfect as he thought it would. He also mentioned that ‘meeting’ God had influenced him to accept his natural gender.

As of now, he is a pastor of Bagong Ilog Christian Fellowship and chose to live his life normally as a man.

Inspite of being a strong supporter of LGBT rights, Santiago strongly believes that marriage should only be for man and woman only since marriage for same-s*x was not written in the Bible.

On the other side, some people are saying that it’s about time to let Philippines recognize the same-s*x union.

Bemz Benedito, the current spokesperson of Ang Ladlad, a group pushing for LGBT rights in the country. Benedito also mentioned that she had experienced some instances of gender inequality in the country and this is the right time for Philippines to embrace equality for all gender.

Gay Marriage

“We are after the recognition of the state and their rights and privileges as couples because right now we are not recognized by the state. We just want the same rights and privileges being enjoyed by heterosexual people. For example when we rush our partners to the emergency room, we cannot sign the waivers, because we are recognized,” Benedito said.

“Even ‘yung mga napundar namin nung aming mga matagal na partner, kapag nawala ‘yung aming partner, hindi ito mapupunta sa amin, sa pamilya. Kahit ‘di tanggap ng pamilya, automatic ‘yun pupunta sa kanila. We have one case, a couple for 30 years, hindi tanggap ng pamilya, pero at the end of the day hindi napunta (sa partner)–kundi napunta sa pamilya na hindi tumanggap sa kaniya,” Benedito also added.
