Dekada ’80 singer, Roel Cortez passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at around 9:30 P.M. due to the stage 4 colon cancer. Cortez is set to be laid to rest on Thursday, April 9, 2015.

Prior to his death, the life story of Cortez was featured on Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho while he was in his bed battling against colon cancer. During Jessica Soho’s visit on Cortez the singer expressed his sentiments whose life became miserable due to the illness. According to him his doctor hinted him that there’s no way of curing his sickness. Within a few weeks only, Cortez gives up his breath.

Roel Cortez is best known for his OPM hit song during dekada ’80 “Napakasakit Kuya Eddie, and Folk song, Mutya Ka Baleleng.” Moreover, some other songs include Dalagang Probensyana, Pinay sa Japan and Bakit Ako’y Sinaktan.

Upon writing, Cortez’s remains of the singer laid at ‘Ever Funeral’ in Barangay Pantoc, Meycauayan, Bulacan.
