Watch: Scientists create a Tractor Beam to Restrict Oil Spills

NewsInsider

Trending news! Dr. Horst Punzmann and Professor Michael Shats from ANU College of Physical and Mathematical Science has been created a tractor beam on water that provides a radical new technique to restrict oil spills, operate new floating objects or define the splits at the beach.

The group led by Professor Michael Shats was discovered that they can control the water flow patterns with simple wave generators, enabling them to move floating objects at will, according to the anu.edu.au.

Dr. Horst Punzmann said on the interview, ““We have figured out a way of creating waves that can force a floating object to move against the direction of the wave”. “No one could have guessed this result”, he added.

The led professor begin to test by using the ping-pong ball in the wave tank, “We found that above a certain height, these complex three-dimensional waves generate flow patterns on the surface of the water,” professor Shats said. He added; “The tractor beam is just one of the patterns, they can be inward flows, outward flows or vortices.”

There’s no mathematical theory that can explain the experiments.
