Fil-American swimmer Jasmine Alkhaldi proclaimed winner in women’s 100 meter freestyle on Thursday night and supposed to be awarded to receive gold medal but Thailand made protest and upheld by the jury.

Prior the protest, the 20-year-old Alkhaldi, won the race with the record 56.57-seconds beating the Singaporeans swimmer Tien Wen Quah 56.74 and Amanda Xiang Qi Lim 57.21.

“The medal have been already awarded before we know about the decision”, said Mark Joseph, President of the Philippine swimming federation.

Thailand made protest and the technical committee of Southeast Asian Games swimming competitions revoke the result and schedule to re-swim on Friday afternoon at 7:20 p.m. Manila time.

According to Coach Pinky Brosas all swimmers jumped into the water on the first horn except the Thailand swimmer who was waiting for the second horn to jump into the water.

The protest was upheld and ordered to re-swim at the swimming pool on the Wunnun Theikdi National Sports Complex.

Alkhaldi lost the gold medal to Junghaying of Thailand with the record 56.2 seconds followed by Quah Ting Wen of Singapore with the record 56.54 and Alkhaldi with the record of 56.63 (Bronze).

With tears in her eyes, Alkhaldi said, “It’s all right, it’s all right,” and received her bronze medal.
