Negros Oriental is the eastern part of Negros and is the biggest city in the entire Negros Island dwelling with more than 1,300,000 majority Cebuano speaking people. The Eastern province of Negros is rich in agricultural resources like corn, coconut, abaca, flowers, vegetables and root crops which are the chief products aside from exotic fruits like rambutan and lanzones in the area. Most of Cebuanos are living by means of this livelihood. And in coastal areas, Cebuanos primary source of income is fishing while some are raising cattle.
The capital city of Negros Oriental is Dumaguete City. This city is considered as the center of business industry in the eastern part of Negros and the home of the oldest and first Protestant University of the Philippines, the Silliman University.
