Another comment about the lifetime gasoline supply offered to 2020 Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Hidilyn Diaz was made by her manager, Noel Ferrer, back in 2021. He disclosed on Instagram that the national athlete was only given the gasoline supply for two years.

After winning the nation’s first gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with an outstanding performance in the women’s 55 kg weightlifting division, Hidilyn was given a lifetime gasoline incentive by a fuel business.

As an incentive for winning the nation’s first gold medal, Noel insisted that the petroleum corporation had made a commitment with no strings attached.

Noel wrote, “Phoenix Petroleum made the promise public in 2021 when Hidilyn won the country’s first-ever Gold Medal in the Olympics. The lifetime fuel incentive was their announcement, their commitment –– not hearsay. In the artcard/press release, there were no conditions whatsoever; it was presented purely as an incentive.”

Due to the sharp increase in fuel prices worldwide, Hidilyn’s lifelong fuel supply attracted notice once more. On social media, online users have mentioned the incentive and commented on how fortunate the Olympian is to not have to pay for petrol.

Noel insisted that his talent did not receive the fuel supply that the petroleum firm had promised, only two years.

The veteran talent manager then used the occasion to emphasize the significance of the athletes who had brought honor to the nation.

“Sana matuto tayong bigyan ng importansya hindi lang ang salita at pangakong binitiwan, kundi ang pagpapahalaga sa mga atletang naghatid ng karangalan sa bansa. Sadly, this is also symptomatic of how we regard athletes who are no longer in the limelight –– even when they continue to contribute to sports and the country,” he insisted.

“May these tough times bring out the best in us –– and the honesty to match public pronouncements,” he ended.

As of this writing, the petroleum firm that provided the incentive has not yet responded.
