MANILA — According to an envoy on Tuesday, Israel would provide livelihood help to the family of Mary Ann Velasquez de Vera, a Filipino worker abroad who was killed in a missile attack during the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Israel’s ambassador to the Philippines, Dana Kursh, stated in a press conference, “I can guarantee that the government of Israel will provide everything that is necessary as much as comfort to this family as possible. We have a law that if a person, whether Israeli or non-Israeli [has] been harmed or inflicted by either war or a terrorist attack, he or she will be provided with livelihood for the entire life.”
The ambassador stated that because of Israel’s airspace blockade, she was unable to predict when De Vera’s remains would be sent home.
Kursh stated, “We are trying to do as much as we can, but we cannot get out her remains because we have closed our airports for flights coming in and going out.”
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran, was assassinated in an attack on Saturday that started the conflict.
Iran has retaliated by launching drones and missiles throughout the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Dubai.
Approximately one-fifth of the world’s oil passes through the vital Strait of Hormuz, which has been essentially cut off due to the attacks, upsetting regional energy flows. Fears of a new energy crisis that would spike inflation have also been heightened by the war.
Israeli officials are aware of the wide range of backgrounds and opinions found in Iran, particularly its resistance.
The only thing that unites many Iranians who have taken to the streets, including in the massive demonstrations that occurred in January, is their animosity toward the regime. Different factions have called for anything from a complete democracy to the restoration of the monarchy. However, in the wake of Khamenei’s murder and the attacks on their nation, others are siding with the administration.
