CEBU CITY (UPDATE) – The case of a 23-year-old businessman who was killed in a car accident in Barangay Banilad on Sunday night is being looked into further by the Cebu City Police Office and the Land Transportation Office in Region 7.
According to the investigation, the 21-year-old suspect struck a parked car while operating his vehicle and then quickly ran away.
From single-vehicle crashes to complicated collisions involving several vehicles, pedestrians, or stationary objects, motor vehicle accidents encompass instances involving cars, trucks, industrial vehicles, and powered two-wheel vehicles.
A portion of the police report said, “The witness stated that the suspect was driving at a high speed.”
He then struck a person who was standing close to a restobar and was recognized as Kingston Cheng, a young businessman.
The report further stated that the victim was “allegedly thrown against a post near the restaurant due to the strong impact of the collision.”
The suspect left the site once more before crashing his vehicle.
When the businessman arrived at the hospital, he was already dead.
Authorities discovered the suspect shortly after, but he was unable to produce the vehicle’s official receipt and certificate of registration, as well as a legitimate driver’s license.
While awaiting the filing of charges against him for reckless imprudence that resulted in homicide and property damage, he is currently under hospital arrest.
In the meanwhile, LTO 7 mandated that the suspect’s driver’s license be suspended for 90 days as a preventive measure. In order to explain why his license shouldn’t be withdrawn, the agency also issued a Show Cause Order.
The LTO 7 Operations Division has set a hearing for February 17, 2026.
Cheng’s passing is a significant loss to the larger entrepreneurial ecosystem, according to the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Additionally, they urged the government to solve long-standing inadequacies in infrastructure, enforcement, and road safety policies.
