MANILA — The Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines offered his support to a Manila-based group of young Catholics who use the online gaming platform Roblox to promote faith formation and community-building, describing the initiative as a “welcome sign of progress” in engaging youth in church life.
On the occasion of the 5th founding anniversary of Roblox Filipino Catholics (RFC), Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Charles J. Brown commended the group for developing an online simulation of the Feast of the Black Nazarene. This virtual experience enabled devotees who could not attend the annual procession in Quiapo to still take part in the celebration in a meaningful way.
Brown observed that the virtual social center formed by RFC may serve as a space of encouragement and connection, particularly for individuals in need of support and companionship, adding that online interactions can evolve into true friendships that strengthen the wider community.
The nuncio emphasized the importance of recognizing the dignity of every individual, “always and everywhere,” citing Pope Francis’ 2020 encyclical Fratelli Tutti. He also cited Pope Leo XIV’s message to youth, exhorting them to strive for holiness and joyfully demonstrate their faith wherever they are.
In the name of the Holy Father, Brown blessed the members of RFC by calling upon Mary, Mother of Good Counsel. The announcement was issued in Manila on January 10, 2026.
The Roblox Filipino Catholics leadership responded by expressing thanks for the award and characterizing it as a confirmation of the faith and inventiveness of young Filipinos who seek God’s presence even in virtual environments.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, a small group of friends conducted online religious gatherings, which is how RFC got its start. Initially known as El Cofrade Roblox, the club was formally founded as Roblox Filipino Catholics on February 21, 2021, to reflect its concentration on Filipino devotions and youth participation.
RFC began with about 100 young people and has since expanded to over 6,000 members who actively participate in online conversations and events. After organizing the first Intramuros Grand Marian Procession on Roblox, which attracted over 50,000 Facebook viewers on the same day, the organization initially became well-known.
Later, RFC gained additional notoriety for hosting the first Virtual Sinulog and Virtual Traslacion on the platform, initiatives that expanded its membership and reach.
