One of the most well-known actors and singers in South Korea, Cha Eun-woo, personally apologized on Wednesday following accusations of tax evasion and promised to completely comply with any associated proceedings.

While taking a vacation from the entertainment industry to complete his mandatory military service, the 28-year-old artist used Instagram to address the topic.

Soompi, a Korean entertainment news portal, translated Eun-woo’s post’s description into English and expressed regret “for causing concern and disappointment to many people due to various recent matters.”

He added, “Taking this incident as an opportunity, I have deeply reflected on whether my attitude toward my duty as a citizen of the Republic of Korea, particularly regarding tax payments, was sufficiently rigorous,” in the post that included a simple black image.

Beginning in July 2025, the artist explained that his military service “was by no means an intentional choice to avoid this controversy.”

Nearly all physically fit men under 30 are mandated by South Korean legislation to serve in the military for 18 to 21 months.

Eun-woo pledged to “faithfully participate in the tax-related procedures that will proceed in the future.”

He said, “Furthermore, I will humbly accept the final decision made by the relevant authorities and take full responsibility accordingly,”

“In the future, I will reflect on myself more rigorously and live with a greater sense of responsibility, with the mindset of repaying the love I have received.”

According to sources, Eun-woo is suspected of using a paper company that his mother reportedly set up to evade taxes of 20 billion won (about ₱800 million).

According to reports, some advertisers have removed the actor from their advertising material because to the incident.

As a member of the K-pop boy band Astro, Eun-woo—real name Lee Dong-min—first gained notoriety.

His acting career helped him become even more well-known. He landed lead parts in television shows like “My ID is Gangnam Beauty,” “True Beauty,” and “Wonderful World.”

In the Netflix superhero comedy “The WONDERfools,” Eun-woo will co-star with Park Eun-bin, who is most known for her part in “Extraordinary Attorney Woo.”
