As Hidilyn Diaz begins her career as a teacher at the University of the Philippines Diliman, she is adding yet another feather to her cap.
Hidilyn recently finished the Teaching Effectiveness Course (TEC), which took place at the UP Diliman School of Economics from January 12 to 15, according to an article posted on upd.edu.ph. Her impending teaching appointment at the UP College of Human Kinetics was prepared for by the curriculum.
The Olympic gold medallist revealed that the training gave her insightful knowledge about how to approach and run her classes.
“Good thing na naka-attend ako nitong TEC. Nagkaroon ako ng idea kung paano iyong magiging approach ko sa pag-handle ng class. I am also thankful for my CHK colleagues’ support, they were there to cheer and help me,” she said.
During the second semester of the academic year 2025–2026, Hidilyn will be teaching two PE 2 weightlifting classes.
When the athlete met with UP-CHK College Executive Board members in October 2025 to discuss her new position, she made her teaching appointment public.
“Met with the members of the College Executive Board of UP-CHK as I prepare for my upcoming teaching engagement. It’s a new path, a level-up opportunity to become a lecturer at UP CHK!” she wrote on Instagram in October of last year.
The Olympic champion claimed that entering academia enables her to pass on her weightlifting experience.
“When they asked, ‘Why teach?’ I said, ‘Because I want to keep learning, and I hope my students will learn from me too.’ Designing a curriculum to promote and spread weightlifting has always been a dream,” she stated.
She continued: “I’m excited and nervous, but ready to give my best. I love weightlifting, and I’ll keep doing my best to grow and share the sport I love. Can’t wait to meet my future students and co-faculty members.”
Hidilyn has been actively coaching young Filipino weightlifters through the HD Weightlifting Academy in Rizal before taking on her teaching role.
