A van struck a home in Cervantes, Ilocos Sur, on Tuesday morning, injuring fourteen (14) relatives.
The van was going downhill when it came to a curve in the road in Barangay Aluling, according to PCapt Oliver Sari, chief of the Cervantes police. The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and drove directly onto buildings on the side of the road.
He continued by saying that the van appeared to fly, ascended, and crashed with a house’s second floor.
At the time of the occurrence, nobody was home.
The 14 passengers in the van, which was heading from Tuguegarao City to Sigay town, Ilocos Sur, were taken to the hospital immediately.
It’s still unclear how serious the injuries are.
In order to prevent accidents, the police advise drivers to drive with particular caution.
According to initial police reports, the van was traveling along a provincial road when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and crash directly into the house. The impact damaged a large portion of the structure, trapping several occupants and passengers inside.
Emergency responders and local residents rushed to the scene to assist the victims. The injured included both passengers of the van and individuals inside the house at the time of the incident. All victims were immediately brought to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
Police said some of the injured sustained minor to moderate injuries, while others required further observation. No fatalities were reported as of this writing.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, with overspeeding and possible mechanical failure among the factors being considered. The driver is currently in police custody and will undergo further questioning.
Local officials have coordinated with social welfare offices to provide assistance to the affected family, whose home suffered extensive damage due to the collision.
The incident once again highlights the importance of road safety, especially along residential areas, as authorities remind motorists to remain vigilant and observe traffic regulations at all times.
