In the Metro Manila Film Festival entry Rekonek, Andrea Brillantes returns to the big screen after a nearly four-year hiatus. She plays an overseas foreign worker (OFW) who must deal with the world suddenly losing access to the internet ten days before Christmas. In the film by filmmaker Jade Castro, Andrea said she was happy to be able to show off her lesser-known comedic skills onscreen.
The Rekonek star said during the press conference that she spends too much time online, which is why she had to take extreme steps to curb her online behavior.
Andrea noted that by limiting her screen time, she was able to focus her attention on other activities such as sports and other priorities.
Andrea admitted that she had never seen their ensemble team together on screen before the release of Rekonek’s official trailer this month.
“When I watched the trailer, it felt so good kasi ngayon ko lang siya nakita ng isang buo, na connected na lahat. First time ko lang din makita yung ibang co-actors ko sa movie na ito kasi hindi kami nagkita-kita. So ngayon ko lang na-appreciate yung kanya kanyang part ng bawat actor and bigla ko din na-imagine na oh my gosh, ganito nga din nangyari tuwing Pasko noh? Ang daming story na dapat nakukuwento and I’m really excited para sa inyong lahat na mapapanuod niyo ito so merry Christmas po!” she stated.
Andrea Brillantes stars in the 2025 MMFF entry Rekonek, which releases in theaters nationwide on December 25. The cast also includes Gerald Anderson, Carmina Villarroel, Bela Padilla, Charlie Dizon, Zoren Legaspi, Cassy Legaspi, Mavy Legaspi, and Gloria Diaz. Jade Castro directed the film, which was produced by Reality MM Studios and The Th3rd Floor Studios.
Brillantes said she is focusing on establishing a better balance between her public and private lives. While she continues to create content for her fans, she now prioritizes digital detox moments and activities that help her stay grounded.
