Kim Chiu, a Kapamilya actress, has been open about her feelings for her siblings, particularly her sister Lakam Chiu. The two have been inseparable over the years, and she once referred to her elder sister as her “number one critic, number one fan, and superwoman”.
Lakam is Kim’s eldest sibling and has been with her on her journey in the profession for numerous years. Kim is also close to her three other siblings, Wendolyn, William, and John Paul.
In 2023, Lakam was brought to the hospital for an unexplained disease and spent the first five days in critical condition. Fortunately, she recovered, but her family was forced to make a life-altering decision without knowing whether she would survive.
Kim earlier expressed her wish for fast recovery and requested prayers from her social media followers.
“Kung may hihingin man akong regalo sa inyo ngayon yun ay prayers para sa ate Lakam ko. Everything happened in a snap of a finger. She is my strength, and now the word strength becomes blurry. Please pray for her recovery,” Kim requested.
In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kapamilya actress surprised her older sibling with a simple birthday celebration. She has previously expressed her gratitude to Lakam, who has been with her for years.
“Thank you is not enough for everything that you do for us, especially for me. We’ve been on this journey together from the start. Thank you for sticking by my side and not leaving me—most of all, for thinking for me when I don’t want to think anymore. Being my shield and protector, for always being the first one to pick me up every time I almost fall. Thank you for giving me hope. Thank you for being the pillar of our family! We are strong because of you!!! We love you, achi,” Kim previously wrote.
Lakam, on her part, recently came out on social media about their sisterhood. In a recent post, she mentioned that Kim has been “one of the greatest blessings” she has ever received.
“Having you as my sister is one of the greatest blessings I have ever received..May you continue to inspire us with your incomparable talent, dedication, pure heart and positivity,” Lakam previously stated.
Fast forward to 2025, and netizens have noticed that the two sisters have kept their close relationship private on social media. Speculation and suspicions about the purported rift between the two began to circulate on social media.
Kim then said earlier today, December 2, that she had filed a complaint against Lakam after discovering financial inconsistencies in their firm. The actress filed a criminal complaint for qualified theft against her sister.
“After careful consideration and months of internal review, I have made the difficult decision to file a legal case for qualified theft against my sister, Lakambini Chiu, in relation to serious financial discrepancies discovered within my business operations. This decision did not come easily. It is one of the most painful steps I have ever taken in my life,” Kim said.
“I ask for understanding, respect, as our family navigates this very difficult chapter. I am hopeful that through the proper legal channels, clarity and fairness will prevail,” she continued.
Lakam has yet to issue an official statement as of this writing.
