Warning: Suicide is mentioned in the report that follows.

MANILA — According to the medico-legal autopsy made public by authorities on Wednesday, freelance model Gina Lima, who was pronounced dead upon arrival at a hospital in Quezon City, did not pass away from external injuries.

According to the analysis, Lima died from cardio-respiratory discomfort. It also showed non-fatal external injuries, heart congestion, and congested, edematous lungs.

“Kailangan antayin din natin ‘yung resulta ng toxicology examination para dun sa iba pang cause of death. Kasi dito nga sa initial is hindi fatal. So ibig sabihin, hindi ‘yun [external injuries] ‘yung ikinamatay niya,” said PMaj. The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) spokesman is Jennifer Gannaban.

Investigators found pills and marijuana kush in the room where Lima was discovered, Gannaban continued.

EX-BOYFRIEND FOUND DEAD
After Lima’s ex-boyfriend—the same person who carried her to the hospital—was discovered dead at their Quezon City house by apparent suicide, the case took a different turn.

PLtCol said, “As of 7:20 a.m., declared siya na dead on arrival sa Quezon City General Hospital.” Chief of the QCPD’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit is Edison Ouano.

Investigators were investigating the spike in online rumors and harassment that followed the incident, according to Ouano.

“As to the sinisisi, ‘yan ang iniimbestigahan natin ngayon kasi sa social media may bashing nga na nangyari… Pero parallel, mag-conduct pa rin kami ng investigation regarding doon sa pagkamatay nung ex-boyfriend,” he stated.

Ivan Cezar Ronquillo, the ex-boyfriend, was never regarded as a person of interest, according to police, but rather as a witness in the case.

“Wala tayong nakuhang evidence na nagtuturo na may kinalaman siya. So for now, ang medico-legal nga na hawak natin is non-fatal naman ‘yung mga external injuries niya. So walang makakapag-connect doon sa witness,” Gannaban said.

Lima’s family was willing to let the investigation go on, according to the authorities.

Police units in charge of the case stressed that, pending toxicology results and further forensic evidence, the inquiry was still ongoing.
