France is yet to discuss the state of online casinos in the country despite the fact that online poker and sports betting are legalised. The advance of the online gambling industry has made another step forward after the submission of a bill in regulation of the online casino market in the country.

Philippe Latombe of the Democratic Movement party issued the bill 1248 in an attempt to widen the online gambling scene in the country. The bill states that the existing national operators should also be allowed to operate online casino gambling with legal grounds for a period of five years.

Currently, bill 1248 is in front of the French National Assembly subject to be reviewed and discussed. Once passed, online bettors will have legal access to a wider option of casino games such as online slots, online blackjack, Plinko online game, and many more. Latombe said that this step will help in shaping a good economic state even before the market starts to operate.

Bill 1248

The bill calls for an action about the lack of licensed online casinos in France which leads to players going for offshore sites that results in high risk of gambling harms, absence of customer protection, and unregulated government revenue.

‘Faced with these developments, it appears that the absolute prohibition regime is de facto not very protective for consumers. This justifies raising the question of the evolution of the French legal framework in order to adapt it to new practices’, read French Bill 1248.

Since land-based casinos are legalised in France, the Article 1 of the bill 1248 conveyed that this should also be done in its online counterpart. Thus, giving proper licence to the operators to also offer online casino games that can be seen and played in a bricks-and-mortar setting.

Latombe also stated in the Article 2 that the bill should be applied in a five-year period which would last until January 1st, 2030. After the said date, the online casino industry will heavily rely on the past casino licence holders to open their doors to new operators of online casinos by that time.

In Article 3, to ensure the strict implementation of the bill, every online casino game will also undergo the same regulatory mandate that is under the state and local authorities as such of other forms of gambling in the country.

In hopes of a positive turn in online gambling, the bill has already been handed to the Committee on Constitutional Laws, Legislation, and General Administration of France’s Parliament.

Apart from the huge turn in the online gaming industry of France, the bill emphasises that the legalisation of online casinos will allow players to have the right to safe gambling platforms. In addition, this leap will also bring taxes that will be used for public causes.

Future of France’s online casino industry

This wasn’t the first time an attempt to the legalisation of online casinos has been made, one was back in 2005 and the other in 2010 for the French Gambling Act that made way to sports betting in the country. The increasing popularity of online casino games aims for a positive decision towards a developed online gaming industry in France.

Once permitted, players can now enjoy online casino games such as classic table games and unique titles such as Plinko online game.It can also be a way for cryptocurrency users to grow their investments and portfolio since online gambling offers more prizes than they could ever imagine.
