Lanimae Joy Libo-on Mag-aro, a college student hailing from Bacolod City, bravely turned to Facebook to recount a distressing and traumatic encounter she claims to have endured while aboard one of the air-conditioned buses in the Bacolod City.
The student recounted a distressing incident in which a conductor allegedly body-shamed her in front of other passengers. According to her, the conductor publicly insisted that she should pay for two seats due to her size, causing immense humiliation and distress.
Conductor: “Regular ka? Dalawang upuan bayaran mo ha.”
Lanimae: “Student po ako manong.”
Conductor: “So P22 yung babayaran mo (student fare is P11 each).”
Lanimae: “Sige nalang po manong, bababa na lang po ako.”
Lady passenger: “Sana hindi mo siya ginanon, ang sakit non.”
As she stepped off the jeepney, tears streamed down her face, and she couldn’t hold back her emotions. Lani expressed her profound sense of shame at that moment, deeply affected by the public humiliation she had endured in front of numerous passengers.
