The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has taken a decisive stance by dismissing the motions for reconsideration filed by “It’s Showtime” concerning the 12-day suspension previously imposed on the popular noontime show. This ruling underscores the MTRCB’s commitment to upholding content standards and ensuring that television programs comply with regulations. The decision reaffirms the importance of responsible broadcasting and serves as a reminder to all media entities to adhere to the guidelines set forth by regulatory bodies.
According to a press release from the MTRCB dated Thursday, September 28, the agency issued a resolution confirming its decision to dismiss the MRs submitted by both GMA Network Inc. and ABS-CBN Corporation. This ruling reiterates the MTRCB’s commitment to upholding content standards and serves as a noteworthy development in the ongoing regulatory process.
“Said MRs sought relief from the Board’s ruling dated August 17, 2023, regarding the July 25, 2023 episode of the live noontime television program “It’s Showtime!” Specifically, during the show’s “Isip Bata” segment, in which hosts Ryan Bang, Vice Ganda at Ion Perez allegedly acted indecently or inappropriately in the presence of children, which is alleged to have violated Section 3 © of Presidential Decree No. 1986 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations.”
“In view of which, the Board’s decision dated 17 August 2023 is affirmed.”
As a reminder, the MTRCB recently enforced a 12-day suspension on “It’s Showtime.” This action was reportedly taken in response to complaints received by the board, which were related to an incident involving Vice Ganda and Ion Perez consuming cake icing during the “Isip Bata” segment in July.
