According to a report on Unang Balita, three Philhealth (Philippine Health Insurance Corporation) officials have resigned due to alleged corrupt practices in the agency. One of the officials was identified as Thorrsson Montes Keith while the other two was not mentioned in the report.
His first reason is because he is against the mandatory PhilHealth contribution of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) as it is unconstitutional and not part of the Universal Healthcare Law.
“During the Executive Committee Meeting, I have strongly opposed the mandatory payment of PhilHealth contributions by Overseas Foreign Workers to which I have stated that it is unconstitutional or not part of the UHC (Universal Health Care) Law,” according to a source who provided a copy of the letter of resignation submitted by the PhilHealth Anti-Fraud Legal Officer, Atty. Thorrsson Montes Keith, to PhilHealth President and CEO Ricardo Morales on 23 July 2020.
“It is against my personal values to let the OFWs pay for the spillages of PhilHealth,” he added.
Second reason is the alleged rampant and unfair promotion process that needs to be investigated.
Third is that his salary and hazard pay was delayed due to the fact that he started an investigation of some PhilHealth officials.
And his last reason was mainly because of the the alleged widespread corruption in the agency.
This controversial report was revealed during a Zoom meeting among PhilHealth officials on Thursday evening.
