On Monday, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake was recorded off the coast of central Japan, rocking Tokyo and other towns, according to officials, although no tsunami warning was issued.

The earthquake occurred at 5:09 p.m. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported a 350-kilometer-deep trough off central Mie Prefecture.

According to national broadcaster NHK, there were no reports of damage or casualties, and no irregularities were found at the Fukushima nuclear installations.

The US Geological Survey also assigned a magnitude of 6.1 to the quake.

Despite being hundreds of kilometers from the epicenter, the Fukushima and Ibaraki prefectures north of Tokyo experienced heavier shaking on Japan’s seismic scale.

The Shinkansen bullet trains and the Tokyo subway were temporarily suspended following the earthquake, but have already resumed service.
